I am a writer specialising in environment and business issues for corporate clients, newspapers, magazines and think tanks.

I cover the entire spectrum of green issues, from the far reaches of nanotechnology to corporate sustainability. I have more than 15 years experience as a newspaper journalist, including nine years at the Financial Times before striking out as a freelance writer for national newspapers, magazines and the business world. I am able to write authoritatively on the scientific, social, economic, political and business/investment issues around environmental subjects including;

The government has taken a major step forward in the UK’s response to climate change with the passing of the world’s first climate change legislation, at the end of last year. This makes it all the more important for government bodies to set an example through their partnerships with other public bodies and with the private sector when cutting carbon and running sustainable procurement projects. Supplement on Smart Metering that appeared in The Daily Telegraph, for Special Report Publishing.

The UK is on the cusp of an energy revolution. North Sea oil and gas are running out, massive investment is needed to overhaul our energy storage, transmission and distribution infrastructure and a significant amount of the UK’s traditional power generating capability is due to come off line in the next decade. This new energy landscape will present a number of challenges, including how to price electricity, gas and water; how to incorporate local and renewable sources of energy into the grid system and how to measure and manage that energy generation. It is a massive challenge, but it starts with one small building block – the smart meter. Read more

The opportunities in climate change adaptation

Much of the focus in dealing with climate change has been on cutting emissions (mitigation), with investment in measures to cope with the changes already built in to the system (adaptation) being the poor relation. But recent scientific revelations suggest that changes to the climate are happening more quickly than previously thought and adaptation measures will be more important in years to come. Opportunities and risks will arise in a number of areas. Read more
